Chandler paver installation is one of the most requested services I get as a licensed landscape contractor. Concrete pavers have taken the place of “old school” concrete and have become almost a staple product in landscape remodels and new construction.
A Chandler paver installation project can be the perfect addition to most any landscape design. They can be used to create patios, pool decks, walkways and driveways that are functional, high quality and beautiful. Pavers offer a unique sense of richness and warmth that traditional concrete lacks. With proper patio paver installation, concrete pavers are durable and virtually maintenance free. They have a flexible base, unlike traditional concrete, that allows for settling and the natural expansion and contraction that commonly occurs with weather and temperature changes.
Proper Chandler Paver Installation
As a Belgard authorized contractor and an interlocking concrete pavement institute certified installer, I adhere to very strict guidelines in all of my paver installs. Each Chandler paver installation project follows the interlocking concrete pavement institute’s installation process which is as follows:
- Excavate- 7 to 9 inches
- Compact- with a 3000lbs psi mechanical plate tamper
- ABC (aggregate base)- 2 inches
- Sand- 1 inch
- Lay Pavers- with a soldier edged border
- Edge Restraint- around the perimeter of the paver area, secured with steel spikes
- Joint Sand- swept in between the pavers
These guidelines insure that your pavers are laid on a solid, stable, and level base capable of withstanding natural settling. It is important to ensure that each project is installed to ensure appropriate drainage as well. Setting your project up for success from the beginning, can help guarantee a beautiful patio for many years to come!
Potential Paver Problems
All too often, I get calls to fix unlicensed contractors work. I have seen all sorts of Chandler paver installation problems–crooked installs, sinking installs, incomplete installs, etc. It seems that many landscapers compete on price alone, and often end up cutting corners on their paver installation jobs. Many do not compact the area completely, or may just compact it by hand, not with a machine. Others may not excavate the full amount (or even at all) or may not lay the base aggregate, only sand.
It is important to find out before you hire a landscape contractor for your concrete paver installation what process they follow before it is too late. Quality installation may seem expensive, but it will be worth it in the end.
When choosing a contractor for your Chandler paver installation project, do your research. Ask for references. Make sure your contractor is licensed, bonded and insured with the State. Make a smart investment in both your home and lifestyle with pavers for your outdoor oasis!
